Guy Sherwin (b. 1948, UK) studied painting before turning to film and performance in the 1970s, under the influence of the radical practice of the London Film-Makers Co-operative. The work engages with light, motion and sound as fundamental elements of cinema.
His film works have been included in the group exhibitions Film as Film at Hayward Gallery, Live in Your Head at Whitechapel Gallery, Shoot Shoot Shoot at the Tate Modern and A Century of Artists' Film & Video at Tate Britain (London). Solo exhibitions include Movements in Light at Siobhan Davies Studios (London) and Vitrine, Atopia at Gallery Oslo (Oslo). In 2012, Sherwin was artist-curator of Film in Space, an exhibition of expanded cinema at Camden Arts Centre, London.
Guy Sherwin's film works are distributed by LUX London and has published two DVD/book compilations, with a third due later this year: Optical Sound Films 1971-2007 (2008); Messages (2010) and Short Film Series 1975-2013 (2013).
