Marianne Vitale

Marianne Vitale (b. 1973, E. Rockaway, New York) is a multi-disciplinary artist based in New York. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts in filmmaking, she began her career making stop-motion animation shorts, later moving into sculpture and performance, and has more recently become known for sculptures which draw on the histories of American art and architecture. Featured in several iterations of Performa, her video work for Performa 09 was included in the 2010 Whitney Biennial. Other major exhibitions include The Contemporary Austin (Austin, TX); Kunstraum Innsbruck (Austria); Le Confort Moderne (France); Baltic Triennial of Art (2012); Tensta Konsthall, (Stockholm) and White Columns (New York).

Vitale transforms her studio in Long Island City into a mythical saloon-weather station-brothel, populated by a cast of tap-dancing astrologers, rattlesnake-bitten cowboys and dart throwing Indians.
