Eleanor Bauer Artist Class: How To Do Whatever You Want
- Monday, November 4, 1:00 pm
You are not an artist because your parents encouraged you to choose a promising and stable profession. You did not resign to a life in the arts because it was the practical thing to do. If you call yourself an artist, you are probably some combination of stubborn, delusional, and incapable of having a boss. In principle, you really like to do whatever you want. Accordingly, sometimes the world looks to art for gestures, acts, and artifacts made by people who do what they want, because people want to see what other people want to do, not what they are obliged to do. When people want to see what others are forced to do, they can visit the pyramids, watch S&M porn, or just look down and admire their custom-designed and sweatshop hand-crafted sneakers. So how do you maintain a practice of doing whatever you want? What rules or routines do you need to invent to sustain your practice, and fuel your own discipline and desire? Come work on How To Do Whatever You Want.
