Bedwyr William’s A Break In describes the activities of a neurotic thief who finds himself in the dark with the private collection of an eminent New York couple. He begins to question his value structure and the life he has lived up to the point of break- in. Accompanied by a live score composed by musician and foley artist Ian M. Colletti and theatrical lighting this site-specific event is the latest and most ambitious of Williams’s monologues to date. Previous performances have seen him crawl from the wreckage of a residency tour bus (from which he is the only survivor); appear as the mosaic dentist at the Venice Biennale; or seemingly walk on water as The Dinghy King in Grizedale, England. Drawing on personal narratives and family histories, his sculpture and performance works reflect on hope, desire, memory, loss, transformation and mortality with a great deal of wry humor and the occasional moment of pathos.
A Break In is a Performa Project. Curated by Mark Beasley.
