With MoMA admission
Acclaimed choreographer Boris Charmatz pays homage to the legendary dance vocabulary of Merce Cunningham in Flip Book, the newest addition to his Musée de la danse. This incisive work takes each of the most important images presented in Merce Cunningham: Fifty Years, a portrait of the modern dance pioneer, and re-enacts every photo live in The Donald B. and Catherine C. Marron Atrium MoMA’s Atrium, creating the dance from the interstices that link each tableau vivant. For the MoMA edition, as part of the three week project Musée de la danse: Three Collective Gestures, six dancers—and one ex-Cunningham dancer Valda Setterfield—start at 12:00 p.m. to warm up and rehearse in the Marron Atrium, interacting with the audience and performing the piece at 3:00 and 4:00 p.m.
Please join Boris Charmatz, Valda Setterfield, and Claire Bishop for a performance response in the Marron Atrium on Saturday, November 2, 2013, 4:00 p.m. The conversation is led by Ana Janevski, Associate Curator, Department of Media and Performance Art.
Organized by Ana Janevski, Associate Curator, with Jill Samuels, Performance Producer, Martin Hartung, and Leora Morinis, Curatorial Assistants, Department of Media and Performance Art, Museum of Modern Art in collaboration with Boris Charmatz, Director, Sandra Neuveut, Deputy Director, and Martina Hochmuth, Production Director, Musée de la danse/Centre chorégraphique national de Rennes et de Bretagne.
