Performa Hub, 13 Crosby St MAP
$25 / $15 Visionaries, students

The Performa 13 Grand Finale will be a night to celebrate to close of the biennial as well as the presentation of The Malcolm McLaren Award, in honor of the late artist and visionary Malcolm McLaren. Following in the spirit of McLaren, a champion of the young and bold, the prize will be awarded each Performa biennial to an artist who demonstrates the most innovative and thought-provoking performance during the biennial. The inaugural award will be presented during the evening.  A cash prize of $10,000 along with an award created by designer Marc Newson will be presented by  to the recipient.

This year’s Grand Finale specifically celebrates the 30th anniversary of McLaren’s maverick album, Duck Rock. McLaren’s first solo album, Duck Rock, was inspired by his anthropological exploration of indigenous cultures across Africa, Central, South and North America. Expressing once again McLaren’s lifelong obsession with “the look of music and the sound of fashion”, it embraced New York City street culture and introduced hip hop, scratching and graffiti art to a wide audience for the first time. The Vinyl Factory will release the re-mastered and repackaged vinyl edition of Duck Rock in 2014.

The first Malcolm McLaren Award was given to Ragnar Kjartansson for his epic Performa Commission during the Performa 11 biennial.

Generously supported by ABSOLUT, The Vinyl Factory, Young Kim and Supreme.
