Maria Hassabi’s newest dance performance explores the notion of the "premiere" itself – the delicate moment in which artworks, often created, conceived and rehearsed in private spaces, are presented to the public for the first time. PREMIERE is comprised of five solos happening simultaneously onstage, performed by a team of outstanding performers – Hassabi, Hristoula Harakas, Biba Bell, Andros Zins-Browne and Robert Steijn – who each consider the first revelation of new work in different ways. Hassabi and her team carefully articulate the tension between process and product, fragility and grandeur, and the particular vulnerability in both unveiling a work and being the first witnesses to a new creation. PREMIERE will have its world premiere as part of Performa 13.
PREMIERE is a Performa Premiere. Co-presented with The Kitchen.
